20 magicians at the door

The Shaykh asked the patient to imagine a scene. The scene is frightening — but in the end the fear changes its place. Today's diary is for those who cannot sleep at night.

The scene the Shaykh described

A patient is sitting in front of the Shaykh. His voice trembles when he tries to speak. On top of that, he has multiple sihr (magic) afflictions, and his nights pass with his eyes open.

The Shaykh stopped him and said — Imagine a scene. You step out of your house. Standing at the door are 5, 10, 20 magicians. Each of them holds a doll of you in his hand. Some are pushing needles into it, some are muttering spells under their breath.

The Shaykh asked — What will you do now?

The patient stayed silent. Then he said, There is nothing I can do. The Shaykh said — Exactly. Then you will call upon Allah alone.

The Shaykh's words

Whether they are twenty or two hundred, the harm you suffer will be exactly as much as Allah has already written for you.

So if, even after doing your dhikr and amal (practice), the fear still sits permanently in your chest, you must understand that the problem is not in the amal — it is in the address of the fear. That address has to change.

What the Prophet ﷺ taught

Protect Allah, and Allah will protect you... Know that if the whole nation gathered together to harm you, they could harm you only as much as Allah has written for you. (Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2516)

The Prophet ﷺ taught these very words to the young Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). The hands of the twenty people standing at the door are tied by this single line — the reckoning is in Allah's hand.

What to do today

  1. When thoughts of fear come, remember the last line of the hadith — only as much as Allah has written.
  2. Do not abandon the morning and evening amal under any circumstances — not even on days of fear.
  3. Researching how big the magic is and who did it — stop that from today.
  4. Stop watching stories and videos that increase fear; whatever the mind feeds on, it gives back at night.
