So Much Hardship for a Single Match?

The boy could not even stand — yet for two months he has been losing weight, just for one match. The Shaykh's question: How much are we able to do for shifa?
The Scene the Shaykh Described
Walking into the gym, the Shaykh saw a young man. His body seemed to be collapsing and he was gasping for breath; beside him, his brother was holding him up so that he would not fall.
On asking, it turned out that the young man is a jiu-jitsu champion. To drop into a lighter weight class, he is losing more than eight kilograms in two months.
Then, in the two or three weeks before the match, he will eat and bring his strength back. In all, months upon months of hardship — for a single match.
What the Shaykh Said
For one match, people put up with this much. Does sticking with it for shifa ask for anything more than that?
The Shaykh said this in the context of preparing for Ramadan — is this much effort too much to enter Ramadan in good health? The same question applies to a ruqyah program.
The Evidence — With Effort, the Way Opens
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allāh is with the doers of good. (Surah Al-Ankaboot 29:69 — Saheeh International)
The Prophet ﷺ said: The most beloved amal to Allah is the one that is done regularly, even if it is little. (Sahih Bukhari 6464)
What to Do Today
- Make your program small — but daily, without missing a single day.
- If you miss a day, do not start over from the beginning — continue from where you stopped.
- Once a week, write down your routine and look at it — what was done, and what was not.
- Sleep, eating, a little walking — taking care of your body is also part of amal.

Treatment does not work while you carry despair in your heart
When you keep up your amal for month after month and still see no improvement, one thought builds up in the heart — it will never happen for me. The Shaykh says this very thought is the greatest obstacle.
No One Ever Kicks the Stove
The heat of the stove, the splash of oil, the cut of a knife — you put up with it all with a smile. From there the Shaykh said: where there is love, hardship does not feel like hardship.
Why Do You Cry at Home but Not in the Mall?
The same cut, the same pain — only the place is different. With this one scene, the Shaykh made it clear: control is possible.
