Ruqyah

The friend you laughed with is gone

Shaykh Wahid Abdus Salam Bali says — death has no age, and it needs no reason. He is waiting over there, and you are following right behind him.

Shaykh Wahid Abdus Salam Bali says — death has no age, and it needs no reason. He is waiting over there, and you are following right behind him.

How the scene comes before you

Through death, Allah has bowed the necks of the arrogant, broken the backs of kings, and cut short the long dreams of emperors.

From the palace to the grave, from the light of the cradle to the darkness of the grave, from comfort and perfume to the worms of the earth — the journey is completed in a single night.

Can any response be heard from them now? Can even a faint sound be heard? No one has found a fortress against the hand of death.

And you, young man full of dreams — the friend you ate with, joked with, and played with, death snatched him away right before your eyes. He is waiting in the grave, and you are following right behind him.

The Shaykh's answer

Death has no age and no reason — it comes suddenly.

The Shaykh says that Allah created death and life as a test — not who does more amal, but who does the most beautiful amal. Beautiful amal means ihsan: to worship as though you see Him; and if you do not see Him, He certainly sees you.

The prophets and messengers have passed away too, and so have the righteous. So there is only one question — what preparation have you made for this day?

The evidence — who does the most beautiful amal

[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving - (Surah Al-Mulk 67:2 — Saheeh International)

However great the sin, sincere repentance wipes it away — whoever does evil or wrongs himself, then asks Allah for forgiveness, will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful. (Surah An-Nisa, verse 110)

What to do

  1. Pray two rak'ahs of the repentance prayer today, and make a pledge to your Lord.
  2. Leave sin, and close off the road to sin as well — stay away from whatever pulls you toward it.
  3. Increase your istighfar and give sadaqah — sadaqah extinguishes sins, just as water extinguishes fire.
  4. Make your amal beautiful, not merely abundant — with the awareness that Allah is watching.
