What to Do as Soon as an Envier Leaves Your Home

A calm, peaceful home suddenly turns restless right after certain guests leave — quarrels, crying, nightmares? It is not magic; it may be the lingering effect of the evil eye and hasad (envy). Learn how to cleanse your home, in sha Allah.

Does this happen in your home?

• Right after guests leave, needless quarrels between husband and wife, low mood, distance
• Needless crying from the children; heavy, tiring sleep, nightmares and unsettling dreams
• Laziness and heaviness throughout the house; however much you tidy and clean, it goes back to how it was
• Even the plants and the atmosphere of the home changing in a strange way

Do not suspect everyone! But some people carry a strong evil eye, hasad (envy) or negative heaviness — its traces may remain in the home, Wallahu a'lam. That is why, for generations, people would "cleanse" the home after many guests.

Amal (practice) — Recite over black seed and fumigate the home

1. Take a handful of black seed (a full handful).
2. Recite over it aloud, with a blow (lightly, with a little breath) — Surah Al-Falaq 7 times, Surah An-Nas 7 times
3. Ayat al-Kursi 21 times
4. Surah Az-Zalzalah 7 times — intention: to drive out hardship, the evil eye, hasad (envy) and negativity from the home
5. Right after the guests leave, fumigate the home (bakhur) with that black seed.

Why black seed?

فِي الْحَبَّةِ السَّوْدَاءِ شِفَاءٌ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ إِلَّا السَّامَ

While fumigating, keep the windows and doors slightly open — so that everything can leave. You do not need to do the whole house — the place where the guest sat is enough. Many people feel a light, calm atmosphere in the home right after this, in sha Allah.

But the real foundation lies elsewhere

In a home where the dhikr of Allah is regularly made, Surah Al-Baqarah is recited, and adhkar are heard — hasad (envy) and negativity cannot gain a foothold, in sha Allah.

And remember one more thing —

Do not lay out every detail of your life in front of everyone. Not everyone who smiles loves you; not everyone who asks about your blessings wishes you well.

Keep some blessings private, and say Alhamdulillah and make the dhikr of Allah often.
