How Quarrelling Blocks Your Amal

Shaykh Bali says — deeds are presented on Mondays and Thursdays, and forgiveness is delayed for those who hold enmity between them.

How the Disease Spreads

It starts small — a word, a division of property, an insult. Then comes not speaking to a relative, distrust of a partner, distance between husband and wife.

The Shaykh says the first cause is the worldly life — once competition over wealth, fame and position enters, love vanishes.

The second and main cause is Shaytan. Unable to draw those who pray into shirk, he does tahrish — he stirs up disputes between people.

You go to sleep at night with a heart full of anger — the Shaykh asks, what if death comes that very night?

The Shaykh's Answer

The greatest loss is in the religion — the doors of forgiveness are opened, and only the two who are caught up in the quarrel are left out.

The Shaykh says the solution also lies in closing Shaytan's door. Say the most beautiful words to your friend, your wife and your children, call them by the names they love most — choose not merely what is good, but what is better than that.

And before sleeping, say — O my Lord, I have forgiven whoever has wronged me; I have let go of my account with Your servant, so forgive my account.

The evidence — those who restrain their anger and forgive

Who spend [in the cause of Allāh] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allāh loves the doers of good; (Surah Aal-i-Imraan 3:134 — Saheeh International)

The Shaykh tells the story of Ali ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him — a maid, while pouring water, split his head open, and she recited this very verse (ayah). He said, You are free for the sake of Allah.

What to Do

  1. Forgive everyone before sleeping — go to bed with an empty heart.
  2. Do not stay turned away for more than three days; be the one to give the salam first.
  3. "If I go first, I will look weak" — this is the talk of Shaytan; going first is the real strength.
  4. When you hear of a quarrel between two people, try to reconcile them — this is an amal of great merit.
