Here, Shaykh Bali has separated two things — the five conditions for creating content, and the halal alternatives for earning.

How the Question Comes Up

Today anyone can open a channel or a page. After a while, income starts coming in too.

Then, little by little, many other things creep in — apps that pay to boost likes, taking money in exchange for likes, buying and selling pages, even selling stolen pages.

A nagging doubt remains inside — is this money actually halal?

The question came to Shaykh Bali in two parts — what are the rules for content, and which way of earning is permissible?

The Shaykh's Answer

Earning with ads left on — in the Shaykh's view, in today's reality this is not permissible.

Because most ads contain something — pictures of women, music, or promotion of haram products. Also, the same content is shown with different ads in different countries; what you see, a viewer abroad does not see.

"I post Islamic content, I'm not the one sending the ads" — the Shaykh says, but the option to turn them off was in your hands; you are the one who left them on.

The Evidence — More Is Not Necessarily Better

Say, "Not equal are the evil and the good, although the abundance of evil might impress you." So fear Allāh, O you of understanding, that you may be successful. (Surah Al-Maaida 5:100 — Saheeh International)

The Shaykh's five conditions for content — the subject must be permissible, there must be no lies, no mockery or ridicule, no women or music, and no imitation of one another's appearance between men and women.

What to Do

  1. Keep ads turned off — the viewers' eyes and ears will be protected from the haram.
  2. Alternative income: channel memberships, gifts sent by viewers, promotion or sponsorship of permissible products.
  3. Do not buy likes with money — the Shaykh says this contains both gambling and deception.
  4. Do not praise a product without having used it yourself; and do not buy or sell stolen pages either.
