Shaykh Bali has spoken separately for men and for women — even at home, you can receive a large part of the blessing of Friday.

How the Question Comes

The Friday morning passes in sleep, or on the phone. You hear the adhan, rush out in a hurry, and then end up standing in the last row.

The woman at home thinks — Jumu'ah is the men's day; what is there for me here? So the day goes by just like any other day.

The afternoon passes too. No one reminds her that there is a time at the end of the day when the dua is not turned away.

The question came to Shaykh Bali directly — What are the best amals of Friday?

The Shaykh's Answer

Abundant salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ, reciting Surah Al-Kahf, and going to the mosque early in the morning after taking a bath.

The Shaykh says — whoever bathes and has others bathe, sets out very early in the morning, goes on foot and does not ride, sits near the imam, listens attentively and stays silent — for every step he takes, he receives the reward of a year of fasting and night prayer.

For women: salawat, Surah Al-Kahf and a bath on Friday. When her husband sets out for the mosque, she sits on her prayer mat and waits while praying voluntary prayers — the Shaykh says that in this way she too will receive the reward of the steps toward the mosque.

The Evidence — A Year for Every Step

Whoever bathes and has others bathe, sets out early in the morning, goes on foot — does not ride, sits near the imam, listens attentively and stays silent — for every step he takes, he receives the reward of a year of fasting and night prayer. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Tirmidhi and Nasa'i; the hadith is sahih)

The Shaykh says — half an hour before Maghrib, perform wudu, sit on your prayer mat and make dua; this is the Sa'at al-Ijabah. If you remain waiting for the prayer until the adhan, you are counted as being in prayer.

What to Do

  1. Throughout Friday, send abundant salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ.
  2. Recite Surah Al-Kahf — for both men and women.
  3. Take a bath and go to the mosque early in the morning, go on foot, and listen to the khutbah in silence.
  4. Spend the time before Maghrib in dua — sit on your prayer mat and wait for the adhan.
