Jahannam Is Not Just a Burning Fire

There are cities there, chambers, chains, smoke — and until the very end, the door of repentance is open too.

There are cities there, chambers, chains, smoke — and until the very end, the door of repentance is open too.

How the Scene Unfolds

The Shaykh says — Jahannam has seven doors, each with its own appointed share. Inside are prisons, iron chains, thorny trees, and smoke that chokes the breath.

A righteous elder, whenever he grew lax in worship, would touch his finger to the flame of a lamp and say to himself — You cannot bear the fire of this world; how will you bear the fire of the Hereafter?

There, people will rush toward a shadow, but it will be choking black smoke — neither cool, nor honorable.

Jahannam has been prepared for the disbelievers, and also for those among the people of tawhid who remain drowning in sin.

The Shaykh's Reply

The Shaykh did not speak to frighten — he spoke so that we return: “Repent to Allah, before you enter the fire.”

He called people by name — the one who consumes interest, the one who disobeys his parents, the one who oppresses people, the one who takes bribes, the one who skips Fajr in congregation. To each of them, one message: beware, and come back.

The Evidence — The Door Is Still Open

And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allāh will find Allāh Forgiving and Merciful. (Surah An-Nisaa 4:110 — Saheeh International)

The Shaykh says — however many sins you have committed, after sincere repentance, istighfar and remorse, Allah forgives. There is no place for despair.

What to Do

  1. The sin you have been dragging along for years — repent from that very sin today.
  2. If you have dealings involving interest or bribes, begin a plan to get out of them today.
  3. Mend your relationship with your parents; if anyone's right is being withheld, return it.
  4. Make dua every day — Allahumma najjina minan-nar.
