The Deeds That Continue Even After Death
Shaykh Bali says — with death, the record of deeds is closed, except for three things. And any one of these three can be started today.

Shaykh Bali says — with death, the record of deeds is closed, except for three things. And any one of these three can be started today.
The Opportunity You Have Right Now
Death means the door of deeds is closed. No one can rise from the grave to pray two rak'ahs, or even say tasbih once.
The Shaykh says — right now, if you wish, you can get up and pray two rak'ahs, or say tasbih a hundred times. After death, you will regret that very one rak'ah.
The Qur'an speaks of that regret — when death comes, he will say, 'My Lord, send me back' (Surah Al-Mu'minun, verses 99–100). The answer: never.
So what is the way to keep earning reward even while lying in the grave? The Prophet ﷺ has told us three ways.
The Shaykh's Answer
Sadaqah jariyah, beneficial knowledge, and the dua of a righteous child — the record stays open only for these three.
The Shaykh explains — the benefit of ordinary charity comes to an end, while the benefit of ongoing charity keeps going: a mosque, a well, land set aside as waqf. Knowledge means books, copies of the Qur'an, teaching someone Surah Al-Fatihah. And when it comes to a child, the word is righteous.
The Evidence — Everything Stops Except Three
When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who makes dua for him. (Sahih Muslim 1631)
The Shaykh says — every morning an angel calls out, O Allah, give recompense to the one who gives (Sahih Bukhari). And charity extinguishes the anger of the Lord and protects from an evil death.
What to Do
- Even if it is small, leave behind something that keeps going — a well, a share in a mosque, a waqf.
- Teach one person Surah Al-Fatihah or the tashahhud — every time they recite it, it counts for you.
- Work on your child's salah — the Qur'an, religious knowledge, taking them to the mosque.
- Give charity today — when the time comes to say 'send me back', there will be no chance left.
