The Three Questions of the Grave Are Not Answered by Memorization
Shaykh Bali says that those whom Allah keeps steadfast are described in the Qur'an itself — the one who has set the six pillars of iman firmly in the heart and put them into practice.

Shaykh Bali says that those whom Allah keeps steadfast are described in the Qur'an itself — the one who has set the six pillars of iman firmly in the heart and put them into practice.
Whom Allah Keeps Steadfast
Allah says — those who have believed, Allah keeps them firm with the firm word in the life of this world and in the Hereafter. (Surah Ibrahim, verse 27)
What is that iman? Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and the qadar, both good and bad — six pillars. It must be set in the heart and carried out with the limbs.
On the right, one angel writes good deeds; on the left, one writes sins. The Shaykh's question — which angel is busier with you?
The one who thinks no one is watching forgets — Allah is watching, two angels are witnesses; and with every forbidden glance, a black spot falls on the heart.
The Shaykh's Answer
The answers to the three questions do not come from memorization, they come through amal.
One who has loved his Lord, feared Him, and prostrated to Him all his life — how could he forget? He will say, my Lord is Allah. One who has carried the religion into his dealings, his character and his values will say — my religion is Islam.
But the one who is lazy about Fajr, consumes people's wealth, deals in interest, and lies — he says, trembling, "Ha, ha, I do not know."
The Evidence — Where Iman Stands
كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allāh and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination." (Surah Al-Baqara 2:285 — Saheeh International; meaning of the complete verse)
Iman in qadar means — what struck you was not meant to be avoided, and what passed you by was not meant to strike you. The Shaykh says, illness and hardship also erase sins and raise one in rank.
What to Do
- The six pillars are not just for memorizing — run your daily decisions by them.
- Keep a gathering of dhikr at home — the angels go searching for gatherings of dhikr.
- Stop forbidden glances and backbiting — give the angel on the left less work.
- Make dua — Allahumma thabbitna bil-qawlith-thabit.
