ruqyah

Join the ranks of those who have gone ahead

The Prophet ﷺ said — the Mufarridun have gone ahead. The companions asked, who are they? The answer came: the men and women who engage in much dhikr of Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ said — the Mufarridun have gone ahead. The companions asked, who are they? The answer came: the men and women who engage in much dhikr of Allah.

The Context of This Talk

Shaykh Bali gave this talk in the context of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah — the days when the reward of dhikr is multiplied many times over.

He says the Mufarridun surpassed others not by dhikr itself — but by the abundance of dhikr.

The Prophet ﷺ spoke of saying takbir, tahmid and tahlil abundantly in these days — Allahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah.

But where does Shaytan come into the connection with dhikr? This is where the Shaykh brings in the words of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him).

The Shaykh's Answer

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said — Shaytan lies in wait over the human heart; when one does dhikr of Allah, he withdraws, and when one becomes heedless, he gives waswasa (whispers).

The Shaykh says — this is why he is named “Waswasul Khannas”. By making abundant dhikr, you can keep your own shaytan permanently away. Dhikr brings the servant closer to the Most Merciful and pushes Shaytan away.

And let dhikr be with the heart, not just the mouth — when you say “Alhamdulillah”, remember the blessings; when you say “La ilaha illallah”, remember that there is no true deity except Him.

Evidence — the heart finds calm in dhikr

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured." (Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:28 — Saheeh International)

In a hadith qudsi, Allah says — I am as My servant thinks of Me; and when he remembers Me, I am with him. (Sahih Bukhari)

What to Do

  1. Set a daily portion of dhikr — according to your capacity, then increase it.
  2. Keep up takbir, tahmid and tahlil — on the way to and fro, even before sleep.
  3. Whenever waswasa comes, hold on to dhikr — it is through dhikr that Shaytan retreats.
  4. Send salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ; reciting the Ibrahimi salawat is the best of all.
