Where did that old sweetness go?
Shaykh Bali says — faith increases, and faith also decreases; so falling behind is not the final word. He has pointed out both why it decreases and how one can return.

Shaykh Bali says — faith increases, and faith also decreases; so falling behind is not the final word. He has pointed out both why it decreases and how one can return.
How the decline begins
There was a time when you would get up before Fajr for tahajjud, then the congregational prayer, then Ishraq — and you would leave the mosque with a strangely light heart. The Shaykh says, that is the sweetness of faith.
Then slowly everything faded. You used to go to the mosque before the adhan; then after hearing the adhan, then after "finishing this task first", and in the end even the first rak'ah began to be missed.
The Shaykh says — the heart is called 'qalb' precisely because of its constant turning over. Sometimes strength, sometimes weakness.
So there is only one question — how do I stop this decline?
The Shaykh's answer
Do not consider small sins small — as they pile up, they are the very things that destroy a person.
The Shaykh lays out the causes — bad companions, negligence of small sins, laxity in obligatory and voluntary acts, drifting away from sermons and advice, unnecessary mixing with non-mahram women, and excessive busyness with the world.
He has also given six ways to return — dua and weeping, holding firmly to the obligatory acts, increasing voluntary acts, much dhikr, sadaqah, and the company of the righteous.
Evidence — the command to remain steadfast
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allāh that you may be successful. (Surah Aal-i-Imraan 3:200 — Saheeh International)
The Prophet ﷺ said — small sins are like pieces of wood that gather one by one until they finally become a fire for cooking. (Musnad Ahmad, authentic chain)
What to do
- Make dua, weep — to reach Allah, His help is needed.
- First of all, hold firmly to the obligatory acts — this is the most beloved amal to Allah.
- Increase voluntary acts, increase dhikr, give sadaqah — dhikr keeps the heart alive.
- Stay with the righteous, and listen to sermons and advice now and then — the heart needs food too.
