Are Surah Al-Jinn and Al-Kafirun part of tahsin?
Shaykh Bali's answer is straightforward — I know of no hadith to that effect. But he named the established tahsin practices one by one.

Shaykh Bali's answer is straightforward — I know of no hadith to that effect. But he named the established tahsin practices one by one.
How the question comes
In the world of ruqyah, new rules spread all the time — this Surah this many times, that Surah that many times; only then, supposedly, is protection complete.
The question came in two parts — is reciting Surah Al-Jinn and Surah Al-Kafirun part of tahsin? And do these two fall within the "Qalaqil"?
Another common method also comes up in this context — grinding seven sidr leaves on a stone, putting them in water, reciting over it, then drinking that water and bathing with it.
People get exhausted trying to keep up with all these rules, and then wonder — Is my protection being done properly?
The Shaykh's answer
That these two surahs are part of tahsin — I know of no hadith to that effect. But reciting them is good and excellent.
The established tahsin practices are — the kalimah of tawhid a hundred times a day, and "A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq". And "Qalaqil" refers to the four "Qul" surahs — Al-Kafirun, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas; Surah Al-Jinn is not among them.
Evidence — the established tahsin
Whoever says this a hundred times a day, a hundred good deeds are written for him, a hundred sins are erased, and that day until evening he is protected from Shaytan. (Sahih Bukhari 3293)
The second — whoever settles at a place and says "A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq", nothing will harm him until he leaves that place. (Sahih Muslim 2708)
What to do
- Recite the kalimah of tawhid a hundred times every day — an established amal of protection throughout the day.
- When you settle at a new place, recite "A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq".
- You may recite Surah Al-Jinn or Al-Kafirun — it is good as a recitation; but do not make it a rule of tahsin.
- The common sidr leaves method is not a statement of a Companion — it is attributed to one of the Tabi'in; reciting over yourself is better.
