Beginning the Pursuit of Knowledge from Childhood

Shaykh Bali has arranged the foundation level for the student of knowledge — short core texts, memorization, reciting to the teacher, and then amal.
How the Problem Arises
Many people stumble right at the start of seeking knowledge — they buy a thick book, read a few pages and stop, and then feel that this path is perhaps not for them.
Others want to take up everything at once — aqidah, fiqh, hadith, nahw. The result is the opposite; nothing becomes organized, and nothing stays memorized.
Shaykh Bali has shown a clear solution to this disorder — a foundation level for the student of knowledge, and then explanation and evidence at the second level.
The rule is simple — keep the beginning of every field so small that it can be memorized.
The Shaykh's Order of Study
It begins with aqidah — the six pillars of faith, in a few simple rules; it can be memorized in just half an hour.
Then, step by step — tajwid, hadith of amal (practice), fiqh, usul al-fiqh, seerah, the sciences of the Qur'an, nahw and balaghah, and inheritance; and lastly raqa'iq, that is, texts that soften the heart. At every stage, memorize, recite to a teacher, and take the ijazah.
Evidence — The Path of Knowledge
مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَلْتَمِسُ فِيهِ عِلْمًا سَهَّلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِهِ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ
Whoever treads a path in search of knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him. (Sahih Muslim)
The Shaykh's emphasis is clear on one point — at the hadith level, memorize selected hadiths connected to action, and do not stop at memorizing but apply them in your life that very day.
What to Do
- Start with aqidah — let the six pillars of faith become clear first.
- Do not move on to the next field without finishing one — consistency builds the foundation.
- What you have memorized, recite to a teacher — mistakes remain when you read alone.
- Put every hadith into practice on the very day you memorize it — the fruit of knowledge is in action.
