Everyone thinks hasad (envy) means illness or blocked provision. Yet one of the most dangerous kinds is a strike against reputation, standing, and acceptance among people. You will recognize it by 5 signs, in sha Allah.
Signs 1 – 3
- 1. At first sight people are impressed and praise you — then suddenly everything changes; yet you made no big mistake, and nothing happened
- 2. Being misunderstood again and again — you say something good, and it arrives twisted; you wish good, and it is taken the opposite way — as if your picture reaches people distorted
- 3. Rumors and bad assumptions — words you never said are spread in your name; even people who do not know you at all sit in judgment
Signs 4 – 5
- 4. Others get acceptance easily — you work enormously hard for the same result; as if there were an invisible wall between you and people's hearts
- 5. A new place, job, or relationship — the beginning is wonderful, then unexplained coldness, aversion, withdrawal
An important balance: not every problem with people is hasad! There are also mistakes in behavior and communication. But when it is noticeably repeated — with many people, in many places, in many experiences — then increase protection and ruqyah along with self-reflection.
Treatment
- The morning and evening adhkar — do not neglect them.
- Recite Surah Al-Falaq often — it is one of the best surahs for seeking refuge from hasad.
- Make more istighfar and salawat upon the Prophet — hardship lifts and barakah comes.
- Give up being overly preoccupied with what people say and think — if you keep monitoring "who loves me, who doesn't," only mental exhaustion grows.
- Sincere dua — that Allah keep acceptance for you on earth.
A word of comfort
For some of His servants, Allah places such love and acceptance among people — which no one can block.
If He opens hearts for you — no one can close them. If He protects you — no envier's envy and no plotter's plot can harm you; only what Allah has written.
Make dua — "Allahumma arzuqna al-qabula wal-mahabbata fi ta'atik" — O Allah, grant us acceptance and love while remaining in obedience to You. Ameen.
