Why Does My Heart Not Feel Satisfied Even Though I Read the Qur'an?
Shaykh Bali's advice — read the Qur'an as a letter sent by Allah. Then the words go beyond counting letters and reach the heart.

Shaykh Bali's advice — read the Qur'an as a letter sent by Allah. Then the words go beyond counting letters and reach the heart.
The Scene
In the tiredness of the night, I just turn the pages. I read, but it feels as if nothing remains inside me.
The goal becomes just one thing — how many juz I have finished, and how many are left.
Yet the heart keeps searching for that taste I have heard about — that people change from within after reading the Qur'an.
Shaykh Bali has given a few very practical pieces of advice here.
The Shaykh's Answer
This Qur'an is a letter sent to you by Allah — do this, do not do that; this path leads to Jannah, that path to the Fire.
Fix an amount — if you read at least three juz every day, you will complete it in ten days. One reward for each letter, and each reward is multiplied tenfold; 'Alif Lam Mim' is not one letter — it is three letters. (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, hasan chain)
If you are used to reading silently, read some of it aloud — reading aloud has a different taste. And while reading, immerse yourself in the meaning: when Jannah is described, imagine Jannah; when Jahannam is described, let fear arise. The Qur'an shows the most correct path — Surah Bani Isra'il, verse 9.
Evidence — The Good News of the Qur'an
وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًۭا
And when they have [nearly] fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or part with them according to acceptable terms. And bring to witness two just men from among you and establish the testimony for [the acceptance of] Allāh. That is instructed to whoever should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. And whoever fears Allāh - He will make for him a way out (Surah At-Talaaq 65:2 — Saheeh International; meaning of the complete verse)
وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥٓ
And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allāh - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allāh will accomplish His purpose. Allāh has already set for everything a [decreed] extent. (Surah At-Talaaq 65:3 — Saheeh International; meaning of the complete verse)
What to Do
- Fix a daily portion — three juz if possible.
- Read some parts aloud and listen to yourself with your own ears.
- Pause a little at every verse (ayah) — think about what Allah is telling me.
- At the verses about Jannah and Jahannam, read while bringing the scene before your eyes.
