Shaykh Bali says, this crowd is exactly what Ibrahim (peace be upon him) wanted — the chance to call everyone together to tawhid.

How the Scene Unfolded

The judge asked: O Ibrahim, was it you who did this to our gods?

The answer was unexpected: 'Rather, this big one of them did it; ask them, if they can speak.'

The whole crowd froze. An idol that does not hear, does not speak, does not move — and the axe was placed on its shoulder!

Shaykh Bali says, with this one sentence Ibrahim (peace be upon him) wanted to make them bring out three things from their own mouths.

The Shaykh's Explanation

They themselves blurted out: 'You know very well that these do not speak.'

The Shaykh says, this is exactly what Ibrahim (peace be upon him) wanted to draw out. Those who cannot even speak — how could they create, how could they provide sustenance? Rather, you are more honored than they are — yet you bow your heads before them.

The question then became even sharper: you worship what neither benefits you in the slightest nor harms you? Will you not understand? (Surah Al-Anbiya)

The Evidence — In Whose Hand Are Benefit and Harm

And if Allāh should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good - then He is over all things competent. (Surah Al-An'aam 6:17 — Saheeh International)

Having no evidence, they resorted to force: 'Burn him!' Shaykh Bali says, this is the tactic of the weak. And Allah commanded the fire to become cool and peaceful.

What to Do

  1. Explain with reason, not with anger — when you have evidence, you do not need to raise your voice.
  2. Allah alone is the owner of benefit and harm — in this belief many fears are broken.
  3. Once you understand the truth, do not sit stubbornly; stubbornness is what drowned them.
  4. However great the calamity, even fire is not outside Allah's command — keep this in mind.
