Ruqyah

But we're not doing anything wrong

Shaykh Wahid Abdussalam Bali's answer is not harsh, but it is ruthlessly honest — Shaytan finds here exactly what he looks for.

Shaykh Wahid Abdussalam Bali's answer is not harsh, but it is ruthlessly honest — Shaytan finds here exactly what he looks for.

How the Question Comes

A group on social media — there are boys and girls; games and chatter. The live rooms run for hours on end.

One sister gave advice — this mixing is not right. The reply came: We're not doing anything wrong, we're just lightening up a little, spending a little time.

It sounds harmless. But someone speaks so that others will be impressed, someone listens with a different pull — these diseases of the heart cannot be seen from the outside.

The question was put to the Shaykh — What advice should I give these boys and girls?

The Shaykh's Answer

When men sit with men, Shaytan cannot enter, and when women sit with women, he cannot either. Once they mix, he finds a place.

The Shaykh says — in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, the Companions did not mix with women, and the women did not mix with men. Allah wants society to remain clean; so sit only with those with whom sitting is permissible.

The Qur'an did not say "Do not follow Shaytan," it said "Do not follow the footsteps of Shaytan" (Surah An-Nur, verse 21) — because he draws people in step by step.

The Evidence — The Command to Lower the Gaze

وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَٰرِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ

And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment [i.e., beauty] except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess [i.e., slaves], or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allāh in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. (Surah An-Noor 24:31 — Saheeh International; meaning of the complete verse)

The same command is for men as well — Surah An-Nur, verse 30. And the Prophet ﷺ said: After me, I have left no fitnah more harmful to men than women. (Sahih Bukhari 5096)

What to Do

  1. Separate yourself completely from mixed groups and voice rooms — this is the Shaykh's advice.
  2. Brothers' discussions with brothers, sisters' with sisters — this alone closes Shaytan's path.
  3. Lower your gaze — in writing and in pictures too; this is a direct command of Allah.
  4. "We're not doing anything" — this very argument is the first step; stop right there.
