When Allah Boasts About You

On the Day of Arafah, Allah boasts about His servants to the angels — and there is another moment that is within your reach without any travel.

On the Day of Arafah, Allah boasts about His servants to the angels — and there is another moment that is within your reach without any travel.

The Scene

The Companions prayed Maghrib with the Prophet ﷺ. Some left, while others stayed seated in the mosque waiting for Isha.

The Prophet ﷺ had gone outside; he came back quickly, breathing heavily. He said — Receive good news: your Lord has opened one of the doors of the heavens.

Then what he said next is the heart of this discussion — Allah is boasting about these waiting servants to the angels.

Every day we pray Maghrib and walk out. This very moment passes right by us.

The Rewards That Accumulate

If you stay seated in your place after salah, the angels keep making dua for you — as long as your wudu does not break or you do not harm anyone.

Whoever waits for the prayer is considered to be in prayer. If you sit and do dhikr, every tasbih is a sadaqah; if you open the Qur'an, every letter earns ten rewards; and if you make the intention of i'tikaf when entering, you receive the reward of i'tikaf as well.

The Evidence — The Statement Spoken in the Heavens

انْظُرُوا إِلَى عِبَادِي قَدْ قَضَوْا فَرِيضَةً وَهُمْ يَنْتَظِرُونَ أُخْرَى

Look at My servants — they have performed one obligatory prayer and are sitting waiting for the next. (Musnad Ahmad and Sunan Ibn Majah; the chain is sahih)

Among those whom Allah will shade in His shade on the Day of Judgment is one — whose heart is attached to the mosque. (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

What to Do

  1. At least one day a week, sit in the mosque from Maghrib until Isha.
  2. When entering the mosque, make the intention of i'tikaf — the reward will increase.
  3. While sitting, engage in dhikr, salawat upon the Prophet, istighfar and recitation — do not let the time go empty.
  4. During this time, no backbiting or harming anyone — otherwise the dua stops.
