What Is Your Provision for the Journey, Really?

Shaykh Bali says — it is not the number of amal (practice), but the inner reality of the amal that is the provision for the journey. And that provision begins from inside the home, from inside your earnings.

Shaykh Bali says — it is not the number of amal (practice), but the inner reality of the amal that is the provision for the journey. And that provision begins from inside the home, from inside your earnings.

Where It All Begins

Let your concern not be only “Was my prayer fulfilled or not?” — let your concern be the khushu of the prayer. Khushu softens the heart and reforms the nafs.

Let your concern not be only how much recitation I did — but whether the recitation was correct, whether there was tadabbur, and whether I acted upon it through amal (practice) accordingly.

Giving charity is not everything — the real question is whether the intention was sincere at the time of giving.

And the greatest point of all — make the Hereafter your concern, not this world.

The Shaykh's Words

The Prophet ﷺ said — Whoever begins his morning with concern for the Hereafter, Allah sets his scattered affairs in order, places richness in his heart, and the world comes to him of its own accord.

How does that happen? By performing the obligatory prayers on time, lowering the gaze, guarding the tongue, and doing every task as Allah has commanded — if you are a businessperson, no deceit; if you are a craftsman, being flawless in your work; if you have wealth, regarding it not as your own but as a trust from Allah.

Evidence — The Provision for the Journey Begins at Home

And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness. (Surah Taa-Haa 20:132 — Saheeh International)

The Prophet ﷺ said — Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you will be asked about those under his care. (Sahih Bukhari 893, Sahih Muslim 1829)

What to Do

  1. Obligatory salah on time — pray yourself, and wake everyone in the house.
  2. The way you wake your child on exam day, wake them for Fajr in exactly the same way.
  3. No deceit in earning — no hiding defects in goods, no shirking at work, no unjust commission.
  4. Guard your gaze and your tongue; spend your wealth and health as a trust.
