ruqyah

Should I recite on my own, or go to a raqi?

Shaykh Bali's answer — the better way is to perform ruqyah on yourself. But there is no harm in going to someone; this is not a prohibition, it is a matter of preference.

Shaykh Bali's answer — the better way is to perform ruqyah on yourself. But there is no harm in going to someone; this is not a prohibition, it is a matter of preference.

How the question comes

Something comes and sits inside the head. It takes away sleep, does not let the mind settle in salah, and pulls you away in the middle of your work.

One person says — find a good raqi, book an appointment. Another says — don't go to anyone, recite on your own.

In the middle, the person keeps wavering. Time passes, money goes, and the pain inside stays just as it was.

The question came to the Shaykh in exactly this way — which is better for such a person?

The Shaykh's answer

The better way is for a person to perform ruqyah on himself, and not to ask others to perform ruqyah for him.

The Shaykh says — ruqyah is not difficult at all. Morning and evening, recite over yourself the Muawwidhat several times, Surah Al-Fatihah several times, and Ayat al-Kursi several times. You must keep on like this for two to three weeks, until Allah grants shifa.

The evidence — those who enter Paradise without reckoning

هُمُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

They are those who do not ask (others) for ruqyah, do not believe in bad omens, and rely upon their Lord alone. (Sahih Bukhari 5705, Sahih Muslim 218)

The Shaykh took his point from here — not asking is a high level of tawakkul, not a prohibition. The Prophet ﷺ himself performed ruqyah on the Companions, and it was performed on him as well.

What to do

  1. Morning and evening, recite over yourself — Surah Al-Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi and the Muawwidhat several times.
  2. Keep going for two to three weeks; do not give up after a day or two.
  3. When the thought of your suffering comes, return to dhikr — do not let your mind settle there.
  4. If needed, take the help of a raqi; but let your reliance be on Allah alone.
