The Consequence of Delaying Prayer
Sheikh Bali was asked: say something for those who pray after the time has passed. Three things came in reply, and the last is the hardest.

Sheikh Bali was asked: say something for those who pray after the time has passed. Three things came in reply, and the last is the hardest.
How the Question Comes
The prayer is not abandoned, but keeping to its time doesn't happen either. Asr prayer just before Maghrib, Isha at midnight — this is how the days go by.
The Sheikh first reminds us of verse 103 of Surah An-Nisa — salah has been made obligatory upon the believers at fixed times.
The second point is even more uncomfortable — delaying the prayer and showing laziness in it is a trait of hypocrisy. One should stand for salah fresh and alert, not drowsy.
And after hearing the third point, the courage to delay simply fades away.
The Sheikh's Reply
The Prophet ﷺ said — whoever performs the five daily prayers, it will be a light, a means of salvation and a proof for them on the Day of Resurrection.
And whoever does not keep them, for him there will be no light, no salvation and no proof — he will be raised with Pharaoh, Haman and Ubayy ibn Khalaf. (Musnad Ahmad; Sheikh Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, declared it sahih)
The Sheikh says that praying on time wipes away minor sins. However, for major sins one must repent separately.
The Evidence — The River at the Door
What do you think — if one of you had a river at his door and bathed in it five times every day, would any dirt remain on his body? (Sahih Bukhari 528, Sahih Muslim 667)
The Companions said — no, nothing would remain. The Prophet ﷺ said, the example of the five daily prayers is just like that — through them Allah wipes away sins.
What to Do
- Pray every prayer at the beginning of its time — drop the "I'll pray later."
- Stand for prayer fresh and alert; if you sense laziness, take it as a warning sign.
- The Sheikh's advice — weep before Allah and ask for the ability to pray on time.
- In the hope that your repentance is accepted, give a sadaqah; may your heart open up for prayer.
