Which amal is most beloved to Allah?

In the hadith qudsi, Allah said — My servant has not drawn near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory. Shaykh Bali began from exactly here.

The scene

When a season of righteous deeds arrives, people look for something new — what extra can be done.

Yet the five daily prayers are delayed, the congregation is missed, and the calculation of zakat stays pending.

The list of extra amals grows long, but the foundation remains weak.

Here Shaykh Bali has set the order right.

The Shaykh's answer

‘My servant has not drawn near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory’ — hadith qudsi.

So first, salah on time — men in congregation at the mosque, women at home on time, without delaying it. Whoever prays Fajr is under Allah's protection; Isha in congregation is equal to standing half the night in prayer, and Fajr in congregation to the whole night. (Sahih Muslim)

The obligatory duties are not only salah — they include fasting, zakat and Hajj too. And go to the mosque before the adhan, not after it; Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say — ‘The adhan is for the heedless.’

Evidence — the status of the obligatory

وَمَا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ عَبْدِي بِشَيْءٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا افْتَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ

The Prophet ﷺ said — Hold fast to the congregation; the wolf only catches the goat that strays far from the herd. (Musnad Ahmad, hasan chain) Shaytan does exactly the same.

What to do

1. The five daily prayers on time — this comes before everything.
2. Men, hold to the congregation; reach the mosque before the adhan.
3. If any zakat is still owed, pay it; check and settle your obligatory fasting and Hajj.
4. Increase voluntary acts only once the foundation is right — do not reverse the order.
