What to Do Yourself When Struck by the Evil Eye

Here Shaykh Bali has set out two separate steps — one is treatment, the other is protection. It is by mixing these two up that people grow weary year after year.

Here Shaykh Bali has set out two separate steps — one is treatment, the other is protection. It is by mixing these two up that people grow weary year after year.

How the Question Comes

The body feels heavy, the mind will not settle on work, and pointless quarrels grow at home. Someone takes one look and says — you have been struck by the evil eye.

Then the running around begins. Someone gives you recited-over water, someone says you must have it done once every year. Expenses rise, trust falls, weariness piles up.

The question of such people is what reaches the Shaykh — how do I perform ruqyah on myself, and how do I keep myself in protection?

The answer is so short that many are surprised to hear it — Is that all?

The Shaykh's Answer

Recite Surah Al-Fatihah and the Mu'awwidhat morning and evening, over yourself — for a few days, until the suffering goes.

Do not stop once the suffering has gone — that is when the second step begins: fortifying yourself with the complete morning and evening adhkar. These very adhkar give protection from the evil eye, hasad, sihr (magic) and other things.

The Evidence — Hasad Is Mentioned in the Surah of Seeking Refuge

وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

And from the evil of an envier when he envies." (Surah Al-Falaq 113:5 — Saheeh International)

Allah Himself placed the mention of hasad in the surah of seeking refuge — that is, it is He who has also taught the remedy. Mu'awwidhat means Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, together with Surah Al-Ikhlas.

What to Do

  1. Recite over yourself in the morning and evening — Surah Al-Fatihah, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas.
  2. Keep going like this for a few days, until the suffering has completely gone.
  3. After you feel better, do not give up the adhkar — they are your daily shield.
  4. Drop the search for who cast the evil eye — seeking refuge is the real work.
