Ruqyah Protocol
The Influence of Jinn on Studies and the Mind
Ruqyah for Relief from Forgetfulness and Confusion
✦ ✦ ✦

Introduction — who this protocol is for
Many students and parents come with the same complaint: studies used to go well, but now suddenly nothing stays in memory; everything vanishes the moment the book is closed, or the mind goes completely blank in the exam hall. This is not always laziness or a lack of intelligence. The Qur'an itself clearly says that Shaytan makes a person forget and confuses and muddles his judgment (Surah Al-An'am 68, 137). This protocol is not meant to blame anyone. It is an effort, with Allah's help, to free the mind and memory from that influence and bring back the former focus and retention.
Signs for which this protocol may help
- Being unable to hold focus while reading a book, reading the same line again and again
- Forgetting right after finishing reading, as if nothing stays in the head
- The mind suddenly going completely blank in the exam hall or while reciting from memory
- Sleepiness, restlessness or headache starting as soon as you sit down to study
- Pointless thoughts, images or voices appearing in the mind during study
- Being unable to remember at all what used to be remembered easily
- Unease, fear, or a heavy feeling in the neck or head when trying to study at night
- Not regaining the former focus in studies even after trying for a long time
Important note: Most of the signs above can also have ordinary physical or psychological causes. So first get the necessary medical tests and treatment. Ruqyah runs alongside medical treatment, not as a replacement for it. Do not conclude with certainty that someone is affected by sihr or jinn just because a sign matches.

Opening duas
Make wudu and sit facing the qiblah. Make the intention: through the Word of Allah, I am asking Allah alone for healing.
I begin in the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the heavens or on the earth can cause harm; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Recite: 3 times
Nothing can cause sudden harm to the one who recites this dua in the morning and evening. (Tirmidhi 3388)
In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Meaning: Surah Al-Faatiha 1:1, Saheeh International.

Before starting the ruqyah, settle your focus and your intention, then recite.
I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allah from the evil of all that He has created.

Verses of protection against the way Shaytan makes one forget and confuses
While reciting each verse (ayah), make the intention: if Shaytan has any hand behind my forgetfulness and confusion, may Allah break it right now.
He said, "Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan - that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly."
Recite: 7 times
Intention: Seeking refuge while acknowledging the reality that Shaytan made even the companion of Musa (peace be upon him) forget
And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversation. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: The instruction to become alert and return immediately when Shaytan makes one forget
3
Surah Al-Mujaadila 58:19
Satan has overcome them and made them forget the remembrance of Allāh. Those are the party of Satan. Unquestionably, the party of Satan - they will be the losers.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: Shaytan's control is the root cause of negligence and forgetfulness
Say, "Shall we invoke instead of Allāh that which neither benefits us nor harms us and be turned back on our heels after Allāh has guided us? [We would then be] like one whom the devils enticed [to wander] upon the earth confused, [while] he has companions inviting him to guidance, [calling], 'Come to us.'" Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allāh is the [only] guidance; and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: Protection from becoming confused and bewildered under the influence of Shaytan
And likewise, to many of the polytheists their partners have made [to seem] pleasing the killing of their children in order to bring about their destruction and to cover them with confusion in their religion. And if Allāh had willed, they would not have done so. So leave them and that which they invent.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: A warning about how Shaytan muddles the mind and the judgment
Verses for focus, memory and tranquility
After reciting this section, pause for a moment, raise both hands and make dua for your studies.
We will make you recite, [O Muḥammad], and you will not forget,
Recite: 7 times
Intention: Allah promised the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he would not forget the Qur'an -- the intention of keeping it memorized
Except [when adding], "If Allāh wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct."
Recite: 7 times
Intention: The instruction to remember your Lord immediately when you forget
Allāh does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."
Recite: 3 times
Intention: Seeking forgiveness for forgetting or making mistakes
And be not like those who forgot Allāh, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: When one forgets Allah, one is made to forget oneself too. Self-awareness
And he said to the one whom he knew would go free, "Mention me before your master." But Satan made him forget the mention [to] his master, and he [i.e., Joseph] remained in prison several years.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: Staying alert, keeping in mind the role of Shaytan behind delay and forgetfulness

O Allah! Place light in my heart and memory in my brain, and remove from me all the evil whispers that make me forget and ruin my focus.
Recite: 7 times (before reading)

Jibril (peace be upon him) performed ruqyah over the Prophet ﷺ in this way. (Muslim 2186)
O Allah, Lord of mankind! Remove the hardship and grant healing. You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing — a healing that leaves no illness behind.
Recite: 7 times
(Bukhari 5743)
📌 Self-ruqyah guideline
Consistency is the key. A little every day, but regularly.
Method — step by step
- Make wudu, then sit somewhere quiet facing the qiblah. Keep your phone away.
- Make the intention: I am asking Allah for healing through the Words of Allah; the Words have no power of their own — the power belongs to Allah.
- Recite the opening duas (Chapter 1).
- Then recite the verses (ayahs) in order. While reciting, blow lightly into both palms and pass your hands over the affected area.
- Recite each verse as many times as stated in the instruction box below it — there is no need to do more or less.
- In between, make dua wholeheartedly in your own language for 15 minutes. If tears come, do not hold them back.
- At the end, recite the closing surahs and duas, then blow lightly into the water.
- Continue every day for at least 40 days. If you miss some days, do not lose heart — simply start again.
Daily schedule
| Morning | After Fajr — verse recitation, 15 minutes |
| Evening | After Maghrib — verse recitation, 15 minutes |
| Night | Before sleeping — closing surahs and duas, drink recited-over water |
| Weekly | One ruqyah bath a week |
Your own dua in your own language (15 minutes)
During or after the recitation of the verses, ask Allah in your own language. Below is a sample — you do not have to read exactly this; say it in your own words.
O Allah, You know how hard I try, yet I cannot remember what I read. Even with the pages of the book right before my eyes, my mind seems to go blank. You are the One who had the Prophet (peace be upon him) recite the Qur'an in such a way that he would not forget it. Remove from my mind and memory all the waswasa and confusion of Shaytan, open my chest wide for knowledge, and fix what I read permanently in my heart. Ameen.
Where to massage the recited-over oil
Focus for The Influence of Jinn on Studies and the Mind: The forehead, the crown of the head and the neck
Supplements and weekly practices
| Recited-over water | Recite the ruqyah verses over a bottle of water and blow into it. Drink it 3 times a day: in the morning on an empty stomach, at midday, and at night before sleeping. |
| Recited-over honey | Blow into pure honey and take one spoonful every morning. It is good to recite verse 69 of Surah An-Nahl and then blow into it. |
| Recited-over olive oil | Recite the verses over olive oil, blow into it, and massage it into the affected area. It is best done at night before sleeping. |
| Black seed (nigella) | Every morning, take 7 black seeds with recited-over honey. The Prophet ﷺ said that black seed contains a cure for every disease except death. (Bukhari 5688) |
| Ruqyah bath | Recite the verses over a bucket of water and blow into it. You may also mix in seven crushed jujube leaves. Pour the water over yourself from the head down and bathe, once a week. |
| Spraying the home | Put recited-over water in a spray bottle and spray it in the corners of the house, on the doors and windows, and under the bed. |
Daily practices (amal)
Alongside ruqyah, it is these practices that give long-term protection.
| After Fajr | Surah Yasin 1 time |
| Morning and evening | The morning and evening adhkar from Hisnul Muslim, regularly |
| After Asr | Surah Al-Waqi'ah 1 time |
| At night | Surah Qaf 3 times, Surah Al-Mulk 1 time |
| Before sleeping | Ayat al-Kursi 1 time, the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and the three Quls 3 times each. Blow into your hands and wipe them over your whole body. |
| Every day | Give sadaqah as much as you can, every day, even if only a little. Sadaqah wards off calamity. |
| Every day | The obligatory salah in congregation, istighfar 100 times, salawat upon the Prophet 100 times |
Ruqyah is a Shariah-based method of treatment; it is not a substitute for necessary medical treatment.
