Introduction — who this protocol is for
The Qur'an repeatedly mentions scenes of the sky and of birds flying about — Isa (peace be upon him) would turn a bird of clay into a flying bird by Allah's command, Sulayman (peace be upon him) was given the language of the birds and authority, and a scene of birds also appeared in the dream of Yusuf's (peace be upon him) prison companion. These verses make one thing clear — the ability to hover in the air or fly about is never a person's own power; it is entirely under Allah's permission and control. When someone repeatedly dreams of flying in their sleep — sometimes floating peacefully, sometimes waking up in terror of suddenly falling down — many people then search for a specific meaning. But the teaching of the Qur'an is that before searching for the meaning of every dream, one should strengthen the heart in tawhid and seek Allah's protection. This protocol is arranged with those verses, which remind us that the control of the sky, the birds and flight, everything, is in Allah's hand alone, and that protection in every moment of sleep must also be sought from Him alone.
Signs for which this protocol may help
- Waking up after repeatedly seeing oneself flying in the air in a dream, and then being left with worry in the mind
- Waking up startled with the feeling of suddenly falling down while flying
- A pounding heart or a heavy/numb body after a flying dream
- Seeing the same kind of flying dream again and again and being worried about its meaning
- Drifting uncontrollably through the sky in a dream, then waking up feeling uneasy
- Sleep being shallow or broken on the night of a flying dream
- Children waking up crying in fear after dreaming of flying
- Seeing another frightening scene (being chased, falling) together with the dream of flying
Important note: Most of the signs above can also have ordinary physical or psychological causes. So first get the necessary medical tests and treatment. Ruqyah runs alongside medical treatment, not as a replacement for it. Do not conclude with certainty that someone is affected by sihr or jinn just because a sign matches.

Opening duas
Make wudu and sit facing the qiblah. Make the intention: through the Word of Allah, I am asking Allah alone for healing.
I begin in the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the heavens or on the earth can cause harm; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Recite: 3 times
Nothing can cause sudden harm to the one who recites this dua in the morning and evening. (Tirmidhi 3388)
In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Meaning: Surah Al-Faatiha 1:1, Saheeh International.
Recite: 19 times
Before starting the ruqyah, settle your focus and your intention, then recite.
I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allah from the evil of all that He has created.
Recite: 3 times
(Muslim 2708)
Flying birds and the power to fly are subject to Allah's will alone
These verses remind us — the power to fly or to hover in the air does not belong to any person or created being; everything depends on Allah's permission.
And there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you. We have not neglected in the Register a thing. Then unto their Lord they will be gathered.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: All flying birds are communities created by Allah, and everything is recorded in His knowledge
[The Day] when Allāh will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit [i.e., the angel Gabriel] and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind [from birth] and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from [killing] you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but obvious magic."
Recite: 3 times
Intention: The clay bird of Isa (peace be upon him) would become a flying bird by Allah's command alone — the power to fly is only by Allah's permission
Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allāh. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: No one but Allah holds the birds up in the midst of the sky — hovering in the air is also subject to His will
And Solomon inherited David. He said, "O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given from all things. Indeed, this is evident bounty."
Recite: 3 times
Intention: Sulayman (peace be upon him) was given the language of the birds and authority as a gift from Allah, not through any hidden power
The dream story of Yusuf (peace be upon him) and the warning about falling
Recite slowly, with the intention of strengthening tawhid in the heart — protection and tawakkul (reliance on Allah) come before searching for meanings.
And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I have seen myself [in a dream] pressing [grapes for] wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good." He said, "You will not receive food that is provided to you except that I will inform you of its interpretation before it comes to you. That is from what my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have left the religion of a people who do not believe in Allāh, and they, in the Hereafter, are disbelievers. And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And it was not for us to associate anything with Allāh. That is from the favor of Allāh upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful. O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or Allāh, the One, the Prevailing? You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allāh has sent down no evidence. Legislation is not but for Allāh. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know. O two companions of prison, as for one of you, he will give drink to his master of wine; but as for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat from his head. The matter has been decreed about which you both inquire."
Recite: 1 time
Intention: The scene of birds in the dream of the prison companion and its interpretation — the Qur'an's own example; Allah knows best the meaning of scenes of birds or the sky in dreams
Inclining [only] to Allāh, not associating [anything] with Him. And he who associates with Allāh - it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: The consequence of shirk is being hurled down from the sky — a verse of firmness in tawhid, in contrast to the worry of flying and then falling
Exalted is He who took His Servant [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him)] by night from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām to al-Masjid al-Aqṣā, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
Recite: 1 time
Intention: The Isra and Mi'raj — the journey of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ through the heavens was entirely by Allah's power, not by anyone's own strength
Verses of the sky's protection and tranquility
Recite slowly right before sleeping, and make it a habit every night.
And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: The sky is Allah's protected roof — He who keeps the sky protected will also protect my sleep
Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: It is the Most Merciful Allah alone who keeps the flocks of birds flying above our heads steady — tranquility against the fear of falling
It is Allāh who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a structure [i.e., ceiling] and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allāh, your Lord; then blessed is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: Allah made the sky a roof and gave me a beautiful form — a closing of gratitude and tranquility
Special duas — Ruqyah for Dreams of Flying

O Allah! Make my sleep a tranquility and protect me from every dream that unsettles my heart, and by Your permission bring me back to wakefulness safe and well.
Recite: 3 times
Recite right before sleeping, and if you wake up after seeing a flying/falling dream, recite it again, turn over to the other side and go back to sleep.
I entrust my soul, my body and my sleep to Allah — He is the Protector who does not err and never sleeps.
Recite: 3 times
Make it a habit to recite this after the dua for lying down to sleep, right before falling asleep.
Closing surahs and duas
End every session this way. At the end, blow into water and drink it.

The Prophet ﷺ used to recite this dua over Hasan and Husain (may Allah be pleased with them). (Bukhari 3371)

Jibril (peace be upon him) performed ruqyah over the Prophet ﷺ in this way. (Muslim 2186)
O Allah, Lord of mankind! Remove the hardship and grant healing. You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing — a healing that leaves no illness behind.
Recite: 7 times
(Bukhari 5743)
📌 Self-ruqyah guideline
Consistency is the key. A little every day, but regularly.
Method — step by step
- Make wudu, then sit somewhere quiet facing the qiblah. Keep your phone away.
- Make the intention: I am asking Allah for healing through the Words of Allah; the Words have no power of their own — the power belongs to Allah.
- Recite the opening duas (Chapter 1).
- Then recite the verses (ayahs) in order. While reciting, blow lightly into both palms and pass your hands over the affected area.
- Recite each verse as many times as stated in the instruction box below it — there is no need to do more or less.
- In between, make dua wholeheartedly in your own language for 15 minutes. If tears come, do not hold them back.
- At the end, recite the closing surahs and duas, then blow lightly into the water.
- Continue every day for at least 40 days. If you miss some days, do not lose heart — simply start again.
Daily schedule
| Morning | After Fajr — verse recitation, 15 minutes |
| Evening | After Maghrib — verse recitation, 15 minutes |
| Night | Before sleeping — closing surahs and duas, drink recited-over water |
| Weekly | One ruqyah bath a week |
Your own dua in your own language (15 minutes)
During or after the recitation of the verses, ask Allah in your own language. Below is a sample — you do not have to read exactly this; say it in your own words.
O Allah, my sleep, my dreams and my every breath are in Your hand alone. Just as You made the clay bird of Isa (peace be upon him) fly by Your command, so too I ask for tranquility, knowing that every restless dream of flying or falling is under Your control. Protect me from the fear of falling, from restlessness and from the whispers of Shaytan. I am going to sleep in Your name alone — You alone are my only Protector.
Where to massage the recited-over oil
Focus for Ruqyah for Dreams of Flying: Forehead and chest — right before sleeping
Supplements and weekly practices
| Recited-over water | Recite the ruqyah verses over a bottle of water and blow into it. Drink it 3 times a day: in the morning on an empty stomach, at midday, and at night before sleeping. |
| Recited-over honey | Blow into pure honey and take one spoonful every morning. It is good to recite verse 69 of Surah An-Nahl and then blow into it. |
| Recited-over olive oil | Recite the verses over olive oil, blow into it, and massage it into the affected area. It is best done at night before sleeping. |
| Black seed (nigella) | Every morning, take 7 black seeds with recited-over honey. The Prophet ﷺ said that black seed contains a cure for every disease except death. (Bukhari 5688) |
| Ruqyah bath | Recite the verses over a bucket of water and blow into it. You may also mix in seven crushed jujube leaves. Pour the water over yourself from the head down and bathe, once a week. |
| Spraying the home | Put recited-over water in a spray bottle and spray it in the corners of the house, on the doors and windows, and under the bed. |
Daily practices (amal)
Alongside ruqyah, it is these practices that give long-term protection.
| After Fajr | Surah Yasin 1 time |
| Morning and evening | The morning and evening adhkar from Hisnul Muslim, regularly |
| After Asr | Surah Al-Waqi'ah 1 time |
| At night | Surah Qaf 3 times, Surah Al-Mulk 1 time |
| Before sleeping | Ayat al-Kursi 1 time, the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and the three Quls 3 times each. Blow into your hands and wipe them over your whole body. |
| Every day | Give sadaqah as much as you can, every day, even if only a little. Sadaqah wards off calamity. |
| Every day | The obligatory salah in congregation, istighfar 100 times, salawat upon the Prophet 100 times |
Ruqyah is a Shariah-based method of treatment; it is not a substitute for necessary medical treatment.
