Ruqyah Protocol
Ruqyah for Obscene Dreams About a Deceased Relative
Recognizing the whispers of Shaytan, removing shame and guilt, and verses for peaceful sleep

Introduction — who this protocol is for
After seeing such a dream, many people break down inside — they cannot tell anyone out of shame, they consider themselves sinful, and even the memory of their loved one becomes painful. Yet the Qur'an itself has taught that there is no need to look for meaning behind every dream — many dreams are merely jumbled fantasies (adghathu ahlam), nothing but the whispers of Shaytan. And the Qur'an has also made clear that a dead person lying in the grave cannot make the living hear anything or make them do anything — that is, the true soul of the person seen in the dream is not involved in it. There is no sin for such an involuntary scene during sleep. This protocol has been arranged to shake off shame and guilt from the heart, to seek protection from the whispers of Shaytan, and to turn attention back to making dua for the good of your loved one.
Signs for which this protocol may help
- Seeing uncomfortable, shameful dreams in sleep involving a deceased mother, father, brother, sister or another relative
- Feeling intense guilt and shame after the dream and considering yourself at fault
- Carrying the lonely pain of being unable to tell anyone about such a dream
- Suffering doubt and fear over whether the dream was truly the work of the deceased relative's soul
- Feeling afraid to sleep at night and the same kind of uncomfortable dream coming back again and again
- Feeling low, restless, or impure for several days after the dream
- Grief becoming heavier because such a dream has become entangled with the memory of a loved one
Important note: Most of the signs above can also have ordinary physical or psychological causes. So first get the necessary medical tests and treatment. Ruqyah runs alongside medical treatment, not as a replacement for it. Do not conclude with certainty that someone is affected by sihr or jinn just because a sign matches.
Translation of the meanings of the Qur'an: Saheeh International (via quran.com).
Opening duas
Make wudu and sit facing the qiblah. Make the intention: through the Word of Allah, I am asking Allah alone for healing.
I begin in the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the heavens or on the earth can cause harm; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Recite: 3 times
Nothing can cause sudden harm to the one who recites this dua in the morning and evening. (Tirmidhi 3388)
In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Meaning: Surah Al-Faatiha 1:1, Saheeh International.
Recite: 19 times
Before starting the ruqyah, settle your focus and your intention, then recite.
I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allah from the evil of all that He has created.
Recite: 3 times
(Muslim 2708)
The true nature of the dream — verses for recognizing the whispers of Shaytan
Recite with understanding — there is no need to look for meaning in a bad dream; it is merely jumbled fantasy or the whispers of Shaytan, and every scene of a dream is under Allah's control alone.
He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy.
Recite: 1 time
Intention: The warning of Yaqub (peace be upon him) — not every dream should be told to everyone; Shaytan is a clear enemy of mankind
They said, "[It is but] a mixture of false dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams."
Recite: 3 times
Intention: The Qur'an itself calls some dreams 'adghathu ahlam' (jumbled fantasies) — there is no need to look for meaning in every bad dream
[Remember, O Muḥammad], when Allāh showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allāh saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: Proof of how Allah controls the scenes of a dream — before the Battle of Badr, the enemy's numbers were shown to be few
The truth of the grave and death — your loved one is now in Allah's protection alone
Recite slowly every day and strengthen this belief in your heart — the true soul of a deceased person has no power to come into your dream and do anything.
And not equal are the living and the dead. Indeed, Allāh causes to hear whom He wills, but you cannot make hear those in the graves.
Recite: 7 times
Intention: The living and the dead are not equal — no one has the power to make someone lying in the grave hear, so there is no question of them coming into a dream and doing anything
And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - and that Allāh will resurrect those in the graves.
Recite: 3 times
Intention: The power to resurrect those in the graves until the Day of Resurrection lies only in Allah's hands — they cannot do anything on their own
Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.
Recite: 1 time
Intention: Death and burial — both are directly the work of Allah alone; your loved one is now entirely in His protection
7
Surah Al-Aadiyaat 100:9
But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered
Recite: 3 times
Intention: No one in the grave will be raised before the appointed time — coming into your dream and doing anything is also beyond their ability
Special duas — Ruqyah for Obscene Dreams About a Deceased Relative
These duas are arranged specifically for this problem. Recite them after you finish the verses.
O Allah! Burn away every obscene dream in my dreams.
Recite: 7 times
In the name of Allah — all control over my dreams is hereby nullified.
Recite: 7 times
O Allah! By Your strength and power, undo every knot tied in my dreams.
Recite: 7 times
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the whispers of Shaytan in my sleep, and I seek refuge so that he cannot play with my heart using the memory of a loved one separated from me by death.
Recite: 3 times before sleeping
Recite immediately after seeing the dream, or every night right before sleeping.
O Allah! Purify my heart from shame and whispers, and strengthen my belief that those in the graves have no power to harm or benefit me without Your permission.
Recite: 3 times every morning and evening
Recite whenever shame or guilt returns — fix this belief firmly in your mind: a deceased person cannot harm you.
O Allah! Forgive the member of my family who has left me through death, shower vast mercy upon them, and do not give Shaytan any way over me or concerning them.
Recite: 1 time every day
Shake off your guilt and, through this dua, seek good for your deceased relative — this is the best thing you can do for them.
Closing surahs and duas
End every session this way. At the end, blow into water and drink it.

Recite: 7 times

The Prophet ﷺ used to recite this dua over Hasan and Husain (may Allah be pleased with them). (Bukhari 3371)

Recite: 3 times
Jibril (peace be upon him) performed ruqyah over the Prophet ﷺ in this way. (Muslim 2186)
O Allah, Lord of mankind! Remove the hardship and grant healing. You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing — a healing that leaves no illness behind.
Recite: 7 times
(Bukhari 5743)
📌 Self-ruqyah guideline
Consistency is the key. A little every day, but regularly.
Method — step by step
- Make wudu, then sit somewhere quiet facing the qiblah. Keep your phone away.
- Make the intention: I am asking Allah for healing through the Words of Allah; the Words have no power of their own — the power belongs to Allah.
- Recite the opening duas (Chapter 1).
- Then recite the verses (ayahs) in order. While reciting, blow lightly into both palms and pass your hands over the affected area.
- Recite each verse as many times as stated in the instruction box below it — there is no need to do more or less.
- In between, make dua wholeheartedly in your own language for 15 minutes. If tears come, do not hold them back.
- At the end, recite the closing surahs and duas, then blow lightly into the water.
- Continue every day for at least 40 days. If you miss some days, do not lose heart — simply start again.
Daily schedule
| Morning | After Fajr — verse recitation, 15 minutes |
| Evening | After Maghrib — verse recitation, 15 minutes |
| Night | Before sleeping — closing surahs and duas, drink recited-over water |
| Weekly | One ruqyah bath a week |
Your own dua in your own language (15 minutes)
During or after the recitation of the verses, ask Allah in your own language. Below is a sample — you do not have to read exactly this; say it in your own words.
O Allah, I know this dream was not in my hands; it was beyond my control. It is not my sin, but only a whisper of Shaytan and a jumbled fantasy. The true soul of my deceased relative is not involved in this — they are in Your protection, and they have no power to come into my dream and do anything. Remove all shame, guilt and restlessness from my heart. Grant me peaceful sleep, and enable me to make dua only for forgiveness and mercy for my loved one.
